Hairstyles: Women

One of the things that I have always had the most difficulty drawing is women's hairstyles. First of all, there are tons of them, and being a man, I am not privy to dressing my hair in any of their styles. So, when I found myself standing alone at the airport while we were taking our summer interns to fly out, I pulled out my trusty moleskin and started to sketch. The bad thing about getting up at 4:30 AM to go to the airport is that it is at 4:30 in the morning, enough said. The good thing is that the airport is packed and everyone is dressed nice, ready to go to wherever they are going. So, noticing all the different hairstyles, I thought it an ideal time to sketch some of what I was seeing. Here is the scanned page out of my moleskin.

New Photo Book

For our ministry we had to travel across the country in the beginning of 2006. On two trips we actually loosely followed the path of Route 66. First from Tulsa to California, then from Chicago to Tulsa. Since we had to go those directions anyway, we decided to have fun with it. We got travel books about Route 66 and stopped and took pictures of many notable sites along the way. We saw leaning towers, ghost towns, the largest cross this side of the Mississippi and many other things. I am currently working on a photo book that compiles many of our best pictures. I will also toss in some original artwork based on some of the sites we saw. Hopefully, it will be done at the end of this month.

Perugia Window Sketch

When Angie and I first moved to Italy, we lived in Perugia where we went to language school. Out of our living room window was an incredible view of the old Italy skyline. Here is a sketch I did of it, six years ago.

Life Sketches - Giraffe

I go to the zoo from time to time and take pictures of the animals for depth of research, practice and realism in my drawings. Here are some practice drawings of a giraffe including the original picture. The first drawing is the more realistic version and the second is the more toonified.
